If you would like to get expert advice on chairing meetings, the ourcambridge team has recorded videos with three senior University colleagues  to answer your questions. The videos form part of the Effective Meetings project.

The role of the chair

We all know how important the chairperson can be to the success and effectiveness of a meeting. These videos provide some great guidance, tips and shared experiences of chairing meetings. They feature Professor David Cardwell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Strategy and Planning), Dr Karen Kennedy, Director Strategic Partnerships Office, and Professor Patrick Maxwell, Regius Professor of Physic and Head of the School of Clinical Medicine who answer questions sent in my staff.

Your questions answered

In late 2020 the ourcambridge team sent out a request for questions on the subject of chairing meetings. The team received a great response from staff across the University. These ranged from, ‘What do you feel is key to being an effective meeting chair?’, to ‘Babies and/or pets in remote meetings - too distracting or welcome light relief?’.

The videos make useful viewing whether you are a current or future meeting chair, would like to know how best to chair a remote meeting or want advice on how to manage challenging meeting participants. We hope you find them helpful and enaging. Please share with your colleagues as appropriate.
